Meet Our Pastor
At one time in my life I was what I would describe as a working drifter. It's not even difficult to describe my lifestyle at that time. Simply put, I went to work and hung out with my friends. That's it! No long term goals. No direction and certainly no lasting positive impact on anybody.
So, just how did I go from being a "working drifter" to a pastor of a church in downtown Vancouver? Well, the answer is God. You see, He did a marvellous work of transformation in my heart and because of His call and His guidance through His Word, I now have the honour of serving Him here at UCBC.
Time and space will not permit me to share with you the intricate details of God's work and leadership in my life. So, let me see if I can summarize the steps I've taken on this exciting journey with the Lord.
After completing Bible College, my family and I arrived in Burnaby where I served as Assistant pastor at Metro Baptist Church for five years. Now let me tell you; ministry at Metro was exciting as my wife and I were involved in many aspects of that ministry. I really thought we would serve in that church forever, but God had other plans.
Though I was very content at Metro, through God's Word it became very plain that the Lord wanted me to plant a new church in downtown Vancouver. So, with God's help and my lovely wife Leslie and wonderful daughter Anna by my side along with the assistance of other Baptist churches in the Lower Mainland, we held the first service at Urban Community Baptist Church on Sunday evening, October 16, 2005; and the Lord continues to bless to this day.
All I can say is that I'm thrilled I'm no longer a "working drifter" but rather the senior pastor of this wonderful church. I hope you'll come and visit us soon.
